WASHINGTON, US Special Representative for North Korea Stephen Biegun will travel to Pyongyang on February 6 to prepare for President Donald Trump’s second summit with Chairman Kim Jong-un, it was announced late Monday.
The State Department said in a statement that during his trip, Biegun will hold meetings with his DPRK counterpart Kim Hyok Chol to prepare for the second summit and “advance further progress on the commitments the President and Chairman Kim made in Singapore: complete denuclearization, transforming US-DPRK relations, and building a lasting peace on the Korean Peninsula.” In an interview on CBS network on Sunday, Trump did not reveal the date and location of his upcoming summit with Chairman Kim, saying that he will probably reveal it at the State of the Union “or shortly before.” He affirmed that “the meeting is set. He’s looking forward to it. I’m looking forward to it. We’ve made tremendous progress.” He noted that there was “a very good chance that we will make a deal”.
