US House of Rep. passes USD 4.5 bln border funding bill

WASHINGTON, The US House of Representatives passed Tuesday a USD 4.5 billion emergency funding bill for border aid with a 230 to 195 vote.

Senate is expected to vote on its own border bill on Wednesday and pass it by the end of the week before senators leave for the July 4 recess, whereas the White House had threatened to veto it.

This comes as acting commissioner for US Customs and Border Protection John Sanders, who had assumed the post almost two months ago, will be stepping down effective July 5 following revelations of the treatment of detained migrant children.
