US, Saudi top diplomats discuss issues of mutual concern

WASHINGTON US State Secretary Mike Pompeo and Saudi Arabia’s Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud discussed on Wednesday bilateral and regional issues of mutual significance.

The talks highlighted the “continued need to counter the Iranian regime’s destabilizing behavior,” read a State Department press release.

Pompeo, for his part, underlined the importance of the US Saudi partnership in “confronting the Iranian regime’s threats.” The two officials also “expressed their concern over the recent violence in Yemen, including Houthi cross border attacks on Saudi Arabia, and they agreed on the need to swiftly return to de escalation.” The secretary went on to reiterate US backing for a “political solution to the conflict facilitated by UN Special Envoy Martin Griffiths.”
