WIPO seeks to support Kuwait’s development efforts – official

development efforts economically and socially through crystalizing a national strategy of WIPO, an official said on Tuesday.

Director of the organization Regional Bureau for Arab Countries Walid Abdulnasser made the statement to KUNA on the sidelines of opening Kuwait library of WIPO.

He added that the library would contribute to raising awareness of the organization in the GCC region.

He noted that there would be an imminent cooperation between the WIPO and the sector of international organizations and foreign trade at Kuwait’s Ministry of Commerce and Industry.

He revealed that a delegation of WIPO would visit Kuwait to draw up the national strategy, which will seek to contribute to achieving integration among different sectors of intellectual property in the country.

Abdulnasser expressed his delight for visiting Kuwait and taking part in the ceremony of opening the library, lauding Kuwait’s role in hosting the GCC intellectual property center for years.

There has been a growing relation between the WIPO and the sector of international organizations at Kuwait’s Ministry of Commerce and Industry over three years, mainly national legislations and regulations of patents, and intellectual property as well as trademarks, he pointed out.

Kuwait’s joining of the international conventions of patent in 2016 constituted a new stage of technical cooperation between the two sides, he indicated.

He stressed Kuwait’s keenness on supporting Arab cooperation in all activities, topped with trademarks, patents and intellectual property, through taking part in relevant meetings.
